Meet 1pm at Scotch Piper, Lydiate for 4 mile Easy walk to Leeds-Liverpool Canal and Cheshire Lines.  Leader: Tom Griffiths.

SUNDAY 21 MARCH                                          CAR                      WALTON HALL (nr. Warrington)

Meet 9 am at Central Square for directions to Walton Hall (27 mls., 45 mins.)  9.1 miles Easy walk to Hatton and Daresbury.  Leader: Bill Morley.

THURSDAY 25 MARCH                         PUBLIC TRANSPORT                                     HASKAYNE

Meet outside RBS bank in Liverpool Road North, Maghull for 300 bus to Haskayne  (bus arrives approx. 09:50 but times subject to alteration – check beforehand.)  7.5 mile Easy walk to Halsall and Clieves Hills.  Return by train from Town Green to Maghull.  Leader: Cath Pearson.

Meet 1pm at Hurst Green car park, Mawdsley for 4 mile Easy walk to Cedar Farm (with time for tea and scones!)  Leader: Tom Griffiths.

SUNDAY 11 to SUNDAY 18 APRIL                COACH        HOLIDAY IN BUDE (Cornwall)

Meet at Maghull station for 09:45 train to Central, change to Wirral Line for 10:15 Chester train to Hooton.  Then 272 bus to Burton.  7.7 mile Easy walk to Parkgate and Heswall.  Return by bus from Heswall.  Leaders: Joyce and Bernie Court.

SUNDAY 16 MAY                                              CAR                               WHALLEY (Ribble Valley)

Meet 9am at Central Square for directions to Spring Wood, near Whalley.  9 mile Moderate walk (950 ft. of climbing) to Padiham Heights.  Leader: Peter Neild.

FRIDAY 14 to SUNDAY 16 MAY                         CAR        WEEKEND at STAIR CHALET (Keswick)

Self-catering weekend in dormitory accommodation at the Ramblers Association chalet in the North Lakes.  This is a popular budget-priced break.  Dates are subject to confirmation.  Details from Pauline Smith 0151-531 9037.

DATE TO BE ADVISED                         PUBLIC TRANSPORT                               HILBRE ISLAND

During sometime in May we propose to organise a walk from West Kirby over to Hilbre Island.  It is not possible to arrange a date yet as we are waiting for the tide times in 2010.  The walk will probably start from West Kirby at about 11 am to enable travel by train starting with the 09:30 from Maghull to Central.

Leader: John Dougherty.  Details will be announced when we can fix a firm date and time.  Places on this walk will be limited as numbers are restricted and a permit has to be obtained.

Meet at Maghull station for 09:30 train to Sandhills.  Change to Southport train for Freshfield.  8.4 mile walk along the Sefton Coastal Path to Southport.  Return by bus or train from Southport.  Leader: Cath Pearson.

SUNDAY 27 JUNE                                             CAR                               CAERWYS (North Wales)

Meet at Central Square 9am for directions to Caerwys (58 mls. via Runcorn, 48 via Tunnel; 1hr. 15 mins.) 8 mile Moderate walk (1125 ft. of climbing) to Caerwys and Ysceifiog.  Leader: Lynda Barton.

Meet 7pm at the Miller and Carter (formerly the Wiggin Tree) on Parbold Hill (A5209) for 4 mile Easy walk to the Fairy Glen.  Leader: Tom Griffiths.

Meet at Maghull station for 09:30 train to Moorfields then walk to Sir Thomas Street for 71 (Heswall) bus to Irby village (every 20 mins).  8.8 miles Easy walk to Thurstaston, Parkgate and Heswall.  Leader: Ron Hutchinson.  Return by bus from Heswall.

SUNDAY 25 JULY                                             CAR                          ANGLEZARKE (near Chorley)

Meet at Central Square 9 am for directions to Anglezarke (28 mls; 45 mins).  8.6 miles Moderate walk (875 feet of climbing) to Anglezarke and Healey Nab.  Leader: Colin Molloy.

Meet at Maghull station for 09:45 train to Central.  Then walk to Lime Street station for 10:31 (Wigan) train to Garswood.  8.3 miles Moderate walk (775 feet of climbing) to Longshaw and Billinge Beacon.  Leader: Peter Neild.  Return by train from Garswood.

SUNDAY 22 AUGUST                                        CAR                          LYME PARK (near Stockport)

Meet 9 am at Central Square for directions to Lyme Park (58 miles; 1hr. 15 mins).  6.6 miles Moderate walk (1025 ft. of climbing) to Lyme Park and Disley).  Leader: Pat Physick.

SATURDAY 28 AUGUST                                    COACH                            CARTMEL RACES

This is a social day out suitable for all the family.  Coach leaves Central Square at 8.30 am.  The National Hunt racing at Cartmel in the Lake District is an informal affair with a party atmosphere and funfair.  The nearby village can be visited during the day.  The cost, which includes entrance to the course is: Adults £17.50; over 60s: £15.50; Accompanied children under 16: £3.  Book with Dave and Ellen Pope (0151-531 8575) on or after Thursday 6 May. 

TUESDAY 7 SEPTEMBER                                 CAR                                               BICKERSTAFFE

Meet 11 am at the Stanley Gate on A570 at Bickerstaffe for a 4 mile Easy walk around Bickerstaffe Moss.  The early start to this walk is to allow time for anyone who wishes to have a pub lunch at the end of the walk.  Leader: Tom Griffiths.

SUNDAY 12 SEPTEMBER                                 COACH             SEATOLLER and KESWICK

Coach leaves Central Square at 8.15.  Book with Lauren Keller 0151-520 1840 on or after Thursday 2 September.

The D walk includes a return to Keswick by launch from Nichol End (fare not included).  Back in Maghull about 8.45 pm.

SUNDAY 19 SEPTEMBER                     PUBLIC TRANSPORT               LIVERPOOL CITY CENTRE

Meet in the concourse at Liverpool Central station at 1 pm for a heritage walk around the centre of Liverpool visiting several interesting pubs.  Places are limited on this walk and there is a charge of £2.50 per person.  Book with the walk leaders: Stan Williams or Jeff Milne.

THURSDAY 23 SEPTEMBER                 PUBLIC TRANSPORT                                          CHESTER

Meet at Maghull station for 09:30 train to Central.  Change to Wirral line platform for 10:15 to Chester.  Heritage walk visiting some of the historic places in the city centre including the Roman walls.  Walk will take about 2.5 hours.  Leader Peter Neild.

SUNDAY 26 SEPTEMBER                           CAR                                           GWERNAFFIELD nr Mold

Meet at 9.00am at Central Square for directions to Gwernaffield (38mls: 1hr 15m). 9.9mls Moderate walk to Maeshafn and The Leet Walk.  Leader: Dawn Skinley.

FRIDAY 8 to MONDAY 11 OCTOBER                 COACH             WEEKEND in HARROGATE

This is a 4 day holiday staying at the Cairn Hotel, Harrogate on a half board basis.  The cost is £239 including coach travel throughout with local pickups and excursions  (non-members £249).  There are still a few shared rooms left but no singles.  Details from Ann and John Dougherty 0151-526 7700.

Meet at Maghull Station for 10.16 am train to Ormskirk. Walk to Bus Station for 10.45 bus to Parbold (203) 7.5 mile Easy/Moderate walk to Parbold Hill and Harrock Hill. Return buses from Parbold at 45 mins. past each hour.  Leader: Cath Pearson.

Meet at Maghull Square at 9.00am for directions to Chipping (41mls; 1hr). 8.3 miles Hard walk to Fairsnape Fell and Parlick (1600 ft of cliambing). Leader: Joan Byrne.

Meet at 1.00pm at Aughton Village Hall for a 4 mile Easy walk to Quakers’ Graveyard.  Leader: Tom Griffiths.

THURSDAY 18 NOVEMBER              PUBLIC TRANSPORT                                                   BIDSTON

Meet at Maghull Station for 9.30 am train to Liverpool Central, then to Wirral line for 10.10 am train to Bidston. 8.5 mile Easy walk to Bidston Hill and Storeton. Return by train (every 15 mins.) from Port Sunlight to Moorfields. Leader: Ron Hutchinson.

SATURDAY 20 NOVEMBER                  COACH CHRISTMAS SHOPPING in MANCHESTER

Coach leaves Central Square at 9am for a social day out in Manchester, stopping first at the Lowry Outlet Mall in Salford Quays, then on to the city centre for the shops and Continental Christmas Markets.  It is also hoped to arrange a short heritage walk around the Castlefield area. SUNDAY 12 DECEMBER            SANTA SPECIAL                         TODMORDEN / HEBDEN BRIDGE

Coach leaves Central Square at 8.15am. Book with Dave Schumacher 0151 526 5280 on or after Thursday 4 November. All the walks finish in Todmorden and the coach will then go to the Calf’s Head at Worston for a three-course carvery meal. The total cost of the coach and meal will be £23 (non-members £26). Book early to avoid disappointment as numbers are limited.
